Over the holidays, I somehow accumulated fifteen bottles of sparkling wine and champagne. Six of those bottles were given as wedding gifts last fall while the rest arrived on my doorstep in cute little holiday bags with dancing Santa’s or smile-inducing phrases such as “a toast to the host!” Basically, I've been on a mission to find ways to use them.
The truth is, I don’t drink sparkling wine too often mostly because of the pounding headache that rapidly follows, but I’ve never met a sparkling wine cocktail that I didn’t enjoy. With Valentines Day coming up and other special occasions such as bridal showers and birthday celebrations, it’s nice to have a sparkling alternative that can be enjoyed by everyone that is not only festive but tasty, too!
Pomegranate Champagne Sangria
Before pomegranates completely vanish until next fall, serve this pomegranate champagne sangria at your Screen Actors Guild party!
Blood Orange Champagne Sparkler
I adore blood oranges, and the addition of sparkling wine is a delicious alternative to your typical mimosa with boring old orange juice. Serve it up at birthday brunch when you want something a little fancier on your table.
Blackberry French 75
Are you hosting a bridal shower for your best friend or little sister? This take on a French 75 is not only delicious, but it's visually appetizing as well. Can't you envision these beauties on a display table as guests are beginning to arrive?
Champagne Punch Bellini
If you're looking for a way to use up that leftover sorbet, this champagne bellini is a good place to start. It's fancy enough that you can save it for the holidays or you can enjoy these while you are hosting your girlfriends' for your Monday night ritual of The Bachelor or for an intimate Valentines Day celebration.
Every now and then I find myself binge watching the early days of Sex and The City, and while I haven't had a cosmopolitan in ages, I usually find myself ordering one the next time I find myself in a bar. For an added (and sophisticated) twist, these delicious libations are topped off with a little sparkling wine. Drink this prior to any SATC binge watching or any girls' night out to get yourselves in the dancing mood!
Sparkling Blueberry Mojito
Spring is right around the corner, can you feel it through your mittens? Yeah, me neither, but this sparkling blueberry mojito will taste so yummy out on your front porch watching the sun set while your husband or boyfriend puts his grilling skills to good use for the first time since covering up the barbecue pit last fall.
Lemon Blossom Spritz
Lets talk about the perfect wedding cocktail. Two years ago, one of my best friends served this at her wedding and everyone was raving about it. With meyer lemon, St Germain and bubbles, what else could you possibly need besides a dance floor, some good music and someone to dance with? Brides, serve this at your wedding and your guests will be talking about it for years.
I know, it's only January, but your guests will be drooling all over the table when you serve this at Thanksgiving or after an afternoon of apple picking with your family. It's warming, comforting and an awesome alternative to plain old apple cider.
Moet Golden Night
This drink was crafted especially for the Golden Globes, which should tell you just how special this sparkling cocktail is. With cardamom pods and pear brandy, it's s drink you'll definitely be able to enjoy throughout the cooler months of the year when you're searching for something special to serve your party guests.
Pineapple-Ginger Sparkling Wine Cocktail
Pineapple is one of those fruits that I always associate with summer, so when I come across a pineapple cocktail at a restaurant that doesn't have rum, I order it. This drink is easy to put together at home with only ingredients commonly found in a home bar. Make one of these while your kids are splashing around the pool, be careful not to drink too many because they sneak up on you, and fast!
